10 years of Minifiddlers

In September 2012 a group of little fiddlers gathered together in a small studio in Helsinki, Finland to start a four-year long journey into violin playing.

Pioneering in online music education

Minifiddlers started as a distance education programme for selected music institutions, violin pedagogues and their students from different parts of the world. The programme lasted four and half years and during that time we organised twice a week real-time online lessons for violin pedagogues and pupils. Every Thursday always felt like a trip around the world as we started early in the morning from Canberra, travelled through Seoul, Faroe Island, Israel to end up in Alaska late in the evening. On Saturdays the Minifiddlers children and their parents gathered to the studio to record the weekly violin lesson with Géza, which always was a little nerving yet exciting moment. An ambitious

After covid pandemic everyone is familiar with online meetings, tools and courses, but back in the days we started our project the world was different. In 2012 online education wasn’t a common tool - at least in music education. We had to deal with many technical challenges and find best practices for online teaching. However, this made us to put extra attention to quality of our teaching materials. They had to be easy-to-follow, user-friendly and clear.
